The Coppersmith Barbet is a widespread
resident in the Indian Subcontinent. It’s distinctive puk, puk, puk punctuates
many a neighbourhood in the morning, noon and evenings… It is a resident
found in the Subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia. Like other barbets,
they chisel out a hole inside a tree to build their nest. They are mainly fruit
eating but will take sometimes insects, especially winged termites.
When I finally get around to learning how
to use the DSLR, the Coppersmith is the obvious choice for a subject particularly
as it so obligingly presents itself on the mango tree near my balcony. The
light is good, the subject so eye-catching and the camera of good pedigree... there
is little room for the person behind the lens to mess up!! Hopefully the
pictures are adequate and agreeable to all...
This Coppersmith likes a Non Vegetarian lunch sometimes!! |
